Résumé
Out here, child, down is the stars. For three hundred years, the generation ship Calenture has fallen through the dark toward Landfall-the green world its people were born to inherit, a world none of them will ever see, a promise passed down mother to daughter like the sacred Seed no one is allowed to plant early. Every child aboard knows the shape of the world: the destination star grows brighter, the Tally falls, the ship comes home.
It is the spine of everything. It is the reason four thousand souls live packed in a spinning tin sky, dreaming of green. Nineteen-year-old Tam Marrow is a hull-walker, one of the few sworn to silence about the open void beyond the ship's skin. It is lonely, sacred, dangerous work-the same work that took her father, given to the Black three years ago and never spoken of since. Out on the frozen shell with all of forever beneath her boots, it is the only place Tam has ever felt free.
Then she measures the destination star against the secret tallies her grandmother left behind, and the number will not move. The light isn't getting closer. And when Tam breaks the oldest vow and walks aft to the holy engines the Helm keeps sealed, she finds them cold and silent-and buried beneath them, a truth five generations of elders have hidden to keep their people alive. It is a truth that could free the Calenture, or finish the ancient catastrophe the old ones still call the Tearing.
With an archivist who loves her, a mentor bent double under guilt, and a Warden who swears the lie is the last mercy anyone can offer, Tam must decide not only whether to speak-but how a people can be handed the end of their world and still choose to live. Luminous, claustrophobic, and aching with grief and hope, All the Stars Behind Us is a novel about home, memory, and the terrible weight of the truth.
