Résumé
ABOVE THE LABYRINTH: 2nd EditionThis book is a work of fiction. It is based on the experiences of Mark G. Morris. Mark and I were friends in high school in Ferguson, Missouri. Even back then, in the mid-sixties, he lived an adventurous life compared to me and our other high school friends. After I returned from Vietnam and before Mark joined Air America, he and I got together. I was a groomsman at his wedding.
We had lost touch with each other for forty years, then I discovered we were both living in Arizona. I visited him and our close friendship was still apparent. Mark is a great story teller and relates his experiences with humorous self-deprecation. Recently retired as a mental health therapist, I was searching for a writing project. Mark related many of his experiences over the past forty years and I saw a unique writing opportunity for me.
Others had attempted to write his life story, and a screenwriter wrote a movie script, but Mark rejected all their efforts. Mark had written his memoirs in abbreviated form and I had this document to work from. In addition, we spent hours together talking at his home about the book and he reviewed everything I wrote. We both agreed it would be fiction, even though many of the people in the book are real and most of the experiences accurate.
Many names have been changed and I created conversations and situations to better illustrate the story's theme. Today, Mark is a veteran airline pilot and economist. He is currently and has been president of multi-national companies and has advised governments throughout Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
