Résumé

This collection of sonnets offers an erotic take on the metric form, utilizing the English Sonnet framework as a storytelling tool to deliver a reflection on sexuality. By delving into both the visceral and physical sensations of romantic encounters, A War In The Valley is an exploration of intimacy in its shallow indulgence, and the repercussions that ensue for one's self-awareness, and self-confrontation.
As all behaviours have consequences, so too must the chance encounters between sexual partners, especially those that have the unintended development of emotional affection; self-worth is a prominent consideration in the work, as pride and humiliation can one feel powerful, and naked. The chapbook is an expression of lessons learned, mistakes made, and how the mystique of a vibrant sex-life can be marred by one's own undoing.
Specializing primarily in the English Sonnet,  Adam Casole-Buchanan is a hobbyist poet that has been published in magazines,  periodicals,  and online poetry publishers, like Vallum Magazine,  Quills Poetry Periodical,  and Widdershins.  Calling Canada home,  Adam is an urbanite at heart,  despite growing up in rural Ontario,  and has lived in Montreal, Toronto, and Calgary,  as well as abroad in Berlin.
He draws his inspiration from the noise of the world, seldom finding escape in peace & quiet,  as he much prefers the clamour of  a metropolis. As any existing reader knows, and any new reader quickly learns,  Adam displays his fondness for the poetic arts with moody photos of him looking into the vast expanse of the world, for he is not without a healthy habit of self-deprecation.
