LYTLE is a native of Indiana. Following twenty years of military service-including duty tours in Germany and South Vietnam-he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University, a Master of Arts in History from Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and a Master of Library Science from Indiana University. He later served as a librarian in northwestern Indiana before retiring to Portugal.
Lytle is the author of several acclaimed works of military and regional history, including The Soldiers of America's First Army, 1791; The Old Guard in 1898; Love, War and the Ninth Michigan Volunteers; and The Great Circus Train Wreck of 1918: Tragedy on the Indiana Lakeshore.
