Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) was an Anglo-Irish satirist, author, essayist, and Anglican cleric who served as Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. Famous for Gulliver's Travels (1726), A Modest Proposal (1729), and A Tale of a Tub (1704), he is celebrated as a master of irony and a prominent wit.
