Résumé

Before you start an adventure, you have to arrive. In A Little Traveller's Guide to Amsterdam, young readers are invited to spend a gentle day exploring one of Europe's most beautiful and unusual cities, where streets are made of water, bicycles glide past in every direction, and every canal seems to lead to another little adventure. Lola and her travelling companion Flo arrive in Amsterdam by sailboat, lowering the mast of their bright red boat so they can drift beneath the city's many bridges and tie up in the very heart of the city.
From there, they set off to discover wherever the day might take them. They begin with a delicious pancake breakfast before wandering beside glittering canals lined with crooked old houses and tiny bridges. Along the way they discover floating flower markets filled with tulips, ride bicycles through busy streets ringing with bike bells, and explore a grand museum filled with paintings, dollhouses, and model sailing ships.
As the day unfolds, Lola and Flo picnic in a sunny park, climb playgrounds high above the ground, get a little lost in the winding Nine Streets, and escape from far too many window cats by hopping aboard a canal boat that glides through the city as evening begins to fall. There are hot toasted sandwiches, cosy cafés, friendly locals, and a very big Dutch dinner waiting at the end of the day - complete with gravy volcanoes, giant sausages, apple tart, and far too much whipped cream for Flo.
As night settles over Amsterdam, the canals glow with lights reflected in the water, and Lola and Flo slowly make their way back to their little red sailboat, ready to fall asleep beneath the gentle rocking of the city they have spent the day exploring. This is not a checklist of famous landmarks. Instead, A Little Traveller's Guide to Amsterdam shows children how it feels to discover somewhere new - how to wander slowly, notice small details, and enjoy the quiet moments in between adventures.
Written in simple, rhythmic language with gentle humour, this story is designed for reading aloud and for young readers who enjoy calm, thoughtful adventures. The illustrations and storytelling work together to create a warm sense of place, helping children imagine themselves exploring Amsterdam alongside Lola and Flo. Perfect for: Children aged 4-8 Families who love travel and storytelling Read-aloud bedtime reading Young readers curious about the world Part of the Travel For Little People series, A Little Traveller's Guide to Amsterdam can be enjoyed on its own or alongside the other books in the collection - each one celebrating curiosity, kindness, friendship, and the joy of discovering the world at your own pace.
