I don't care that people think I'm a big, mean grump-until I meet her. I'm here for the rescue animals. They're all that matter to me. Then Wren arrives at the ranch. She's staying here while she works on her next illustrated book, sketching drawings around the sanctuary. She watches me with the animals. Smiles at me over dinner. Laughs when our little rescue lamb, Sprout, trips me for the third damn time in a week. Before long, I start waiting for the sound of her boots in the hallway outside my room.
