Résumé
An attempted reunion. A rejected former suitor. A spiteful, still hurting object of courtship. An attempt to regain once lost peace on one side. And an attempt to preserve whatever little semblance of peace had been created in the meantime on the other. Two men finally both trying to go their separate ways. Only for a flash flood to push them back together. For just one night. EDEN LOVEJOYEden Lovejoy, an anxious, quiet engineering professor in his mid-fifties, doesn't want much from life anymore.
Just to keep on working. Paying his bills. Seeing his two adult kids on the rare occasions they have the time to visit him. And to keep reliving the long-gone good times in the only way he can - inside his head. In practice, this means all he wants is to be left alone. He had gotten over being cheated on. He had gotten over nearly having cheated himself. He had gotten over painfully indifferent divorce.
And he's done being treated like a goddamn sounding board by anyone who has ever taken any interest in him. He does not need any more messes to clean up or burdens to carry. He's done with his past. But his past isn't done with him. When said past shows up at the admin's office, with a bouquet of flowers in hand and his name on its lips, Lovejoy finds himself unable to just reject it. Or at least to reject what he knows is an underserved gift.
He opens the letter. And he resolves to never reply to it. In any way. A flash flood, however, does not care about the affairs of men. On his way back home, Eden gets stuck on a set of stairs. Stairs that just so happen to lead to his former suitor's apartment. He gets invited in. Served hot chocolate. And, once again, he is looked at like he's an angel on earth. Not a worn out, possessive old man with trust issues.
Eden still finds saying "no" to these blue eyes, brimming with desire and adoration, immensely satisfying. But is this satisfaction enough? Or is it just the best he thinks he can have? MICHAEL WOODSMichael Woods, a tall, muscular yet pleasantly slim man with pale skin and golden hair, is in his early thirties now. With nearly seven digits in his bank account, his own apartment to live in, and another one to rent out, he believes himself to stand a chance with his former crush.
Until he finally encounters said crush again, that is. It turns out that, even if you are tall, reasonably well-off, and you actually have something to offer. It doesn't matter how much you can give if someone else simply doesn't want to take. Michael is not ready to move on. He never was, he never will be. But he's done many things he wasn't and still wouldn't be ready to do throughout his life. He's used to not being welcomed with open arms.
He's used to not being welcomed at all. He's used to things not going his way. And he's used to things not going at all. So he leaves his apartment. Maybe for the night. Maybe forever. He walks out the door. And he is taken by surprise. By a complete disaster. No, not by the flash flood. By the disaster who once almost cheated on his wife with him. The disaster who, to him, is still nothing but a blessing. *** CONTAINS ONE EXPLICIT SCENE.
