Résumé

Synopsis - A Fate Not SealedIn German-occupied Marseille, love and loyalty become weapons-and survival may demand betrayal. A Fate Not Sealed is a historical fiction novel set in wartime France, where the lives of ordinary people are reshaped by occupation, resistance, and the quiet choices that determine who lives, who dies, and who must carry the burden of both. The novel blends intimate human drama with the sweeping events of World War II, exploring the fragile boundary between love and duty.
Marie-Jeanne Casanova is a young woman living under the tightening grip of German control in Marseille. By day, she works at an industrial laundry commandeered by the occupiers to clean German military uniforms, a daily reminder of the enemy's presence and power. By night, she secretly aids the French Resistance, risking her life to pass information and support acts of sabotage. Jean-Claude, the man she loves, appears to live an ordinary life running a small shop near the railroad terminal.
Yet hidden beneath the surface of their relationship are secrets neither fully understands. As the war deepens and loyalties blur, the choices each makes will draw them into a web of deception, sacrifice, and unintended consequences. When a devastating act of sabotage destroys the very laundry where Marie-Jeanne works, the explosion appears to claim her life. Jean-Claude must confront the terrible possibility that his own hidden connections may have helped set the tragedy in motion.
But war rarely tells the whole truth. Beneath the ruins, fate may still have another path. Spanning the German occupation of Marseille, the Allied campaigns in North Africa and Italy, and the eventual liberation of Marseille, A Fate Not Sealed is a story of love tested by war, of identities concealed and revealed, and of how history's largest conflicts are ultimately decided by the quiet courage of individuals.
Complete at approximately 44, 000 words, A Fate Not Sealed will appeal to readers of historical fiction in the tradition of Kristin Hannah, Anthony Doerr, and Kate Quinn, combining emotional depth with meticulously researched historical detail. I am a retired consultant who has spent 65 years carrying this story shared to me by my parents,  whose historical experiences form the backdrop of this story.
A Fate Not Sealed reflects the personal lives hidden within history's larger conflicts.
