Whose Memory Becomes History

Whose Memory Becomes History explores how certain memories come to be recognized as official history, while other experiences-particularly those of violence, suffering, and resistance-are pushed into silence. Through a dialogue between Oh Sunyoung and Indonesian historian and curator Andi Achdian, the book examines Indonesia's political community, citizenship, and the politics of suffering, asking who is given the authority to remember, speak, and shape the historical record.
Bringing together perspectives from history, art, sociology, memory studies, and political theory, it approaches memory not as a fixed account of the past but as a contested social and political process through which belonging, exclusion, and collective responsibility are continually negotiated.
