It's 1898 in Wallace, a mining town in northern Idaho. Angela Jones is dreading her coming-of-age birthday party; she grew up in the Jade, a brothel where her now-deceased mother worked, and she is about to be forced to follow in her mother's footsteps. John Lee (or Jian Li) Riggins was raised in similar circumstances half a world away. He helps Angie to escape, and together they discover the murders of Johnny's uncle and his fellow miners, and follow the killers through the Pacific Northwest, all the way to the gold rush town of Skagway, Alaska.
As Angie writes in a letter, "I wonder if we're the first couple ever to spend their honeymoon pursuing murderers?" Will Johnny and Angie, sometimes acting as her alter ego, "Calamity Jones, " ever be able to bring the culprits to justice?
