In 1878, after a tough winter, Lane Jackson decides to give up cattle ranching and give prospecting a try on his brother's mining claim near Virginia City, Nevada. On his way to Virginia City, Lane gets framed for the murder of a deputy marshal in Wild Horse. Vigilantes give chase and Lane manages to outrun them, but Lane is eventually arrested and he ends up in court with a colorful, whiskey-loving lawyer defending him.
As his journey continues, outlaws hold up his stage, which results in a standoff at the Cactus Flats Stage Stop, where he meets an attractive woman with a deep, dark secret and an abusive and jealous husband.
