This brief list is  a small sample of love for cinema, an attempt (imperfect by definition and probably with many omissions), to select the top moments of the 7th art, just for the joy of discussion. The comments here are spontaneous, a concise listing of the main thoughts that each film subjectively provoked. Perhaps some people will discover films here that they did not know, or decide to watch some again to re-evaluate them - or even simply remember them.
Whatever happens, the list will have achieved its purpose. The films are listed in chronological order, by decade, with the name of the director and a very brief reference to the plot, followed by a concise commentary. Finally, after selecting 17 films that stand out even among the top ones, a perspective is expressed on the most important directors of all time, while some personal thoughts are also expressed on the future of cinema.
