Dieser Band ist der zweite Teil der Festschrift der Austrian Studies Association. Er beleuchtet aus sozial- und geschichtswissenschaftlicher Perspektive bestimmte Schlüsselmomente, zentrale Akteur:innen sowie diverse Orte und Dokumente, die österreichische Geschichte(n) seit dem 18. Jahrhundert geprägt haben. Die thematische Breite reicht von Joseph Roth über die Politisierung von Sprache bis hin zum komplexen Verhältnis von europäischer und österreichischer Politik.
Zusätzlich spielen Österreichs Zwischen- und Nachkriegsgeschichte und sich wandelnde Parteienlandschaften Schlüsselrollen in einigen Aufsätzen. Der Band zeigt, dass ein wesentlicher Beitrag der Austrian Studies in der Erkenntnis der Historizität - und damit des Wandels geografischer Räume und kultureller Grenzen - liegt. It illuminates certain key moments of important actors as well as various places and documents which formed Austrian history and stories since the 18th century from various perspectives. The subjects range from Joseph Roth, the politicisation of language, to the complicated relationship of European and Austrian politics. Moreover, the Austrian interwar and postwar history and the changing party landscape play key roles in several essays.
This volume demonstrates that a major contribution of Austrian Studies lies in the recognition of historicity and thus the transformation of geographic spaces and cultural boundaries.
