Francis Hopkinson Smith

A New Jersey coast village, a doctor, two sisters, and a child whose parentage the whole place would like explained - over twenty years, with the tide going in and out. Smith built the foundation of the Statue of Liberty and the Race Rock Lighthouse and painted watercolors for major museums; the beach, the wrecks and the life-saving station here are done by an engineer who knew that coast.
