But as the night deepens, their campfire stories become terrifyingly real: a disembodied growl echoes from the old-growth, a colossal walking forest creature delivers a cryptic apple, and a mournful wail drifts across the water. When Ranger Elias Thorne washes ashore, near death and babbling about a "Whisperer, " Ranger Lena Petrova arrives, only to find herself battling not just the island's ancient, uncanny forces, but also the infuriatingly pedantic, fiscally-obsessed Park Aide Zee.
As the bizarre events escalate and the bureaucratic Auditor Archie Finch descends to "optimize" the chaos, Lena and the campers must confront the blurring line between absurd horror and chilling reality, all while the whispers of the island grow louder.
