As winter sets in on the moutain city of Remeh, Grand Duke Nie Wahnera and his five spouses begin their awaited courtship of Duke Alexei Cainov of Vaugia.  Though the surprise appearance of Queen Regina Vauge and Archbishop Mitrofan Stepenov - both intent on swaying Nie to their political faction in Vaugia - poses a new challenge during the cold months.
