Winchell, a young and curious frog, has a comfortable home on a beautiful little pond, so why would he want to leave it? Lately, he has been feeling that something is lacking in his life. So, Winchell prepares to set out on a trip to find what he seeks: someone to share his life with. Before Winchell can leave, something happens that changes his plans. Celestina is a capable young witch setting out for the first time in her life, with just her broom and her grandmother's sayings for company.
Woodhaven is a village in need of a witch. Celestina is a witch in need of a village. As Celestina heads toward this village, she meets Winchell. Celestina is thrilled to find a travelling companion, but Winchell is not so sure this is what he should be doing. Before they have travelled very far, odd things start to happen, and the two find themselves in an adventure filled with magic, a mystery or two, a lonely wizard and a very angry witch.
