Bea, a student at NYU, has been struggling with her family since the last presidential election. Their values don't match her own, causing her frustration and heartache. Then one day, while cleaning out her great-grandmother's house, she finds an old diary. Inside are stories from her great-grandmother during her teenage years. Tales of traveling through Manchuria on the Siberian Express, being in Berlin before WWII, and living in Japan before Pearl Harbor.
Infatuated with these stories, Bea goes on a hunt to learn about her family's past; however, the political atmosphere of her own times has become intense. The president has signed executive orders demanding the purification of the country and its citizens. Immigrants are targeted at first, then those from certain nationalities, but it doesn't stop there. It becomes clear to Bea that no one is safe.
Armed with the truth of her family's past, she tries to warn her relatives, but will it be too late for them to learn the consequences of their vote?
