Bren's used to being the one figuring things out; how to fix a relationship, how to earn his ex's forgiveness, how to live with a body that isn't entirely his anymore. Freya's used to just handling things. That's the difference between them, and lately it's the only thing keeping either of them steady. Freya's "upgrade" didn't come free. Whatever she found in those ruins left more behind than a bigger package; old feelings, old exes, old wreckage she's never had to explain to anyone before.
