An immense asteroid struck the Earth one fine spring day without the amount of advance warning the experts had planned for and expected. If it had, countless millions of lives could have been saved. Or maybe not. Was the asteroid a planet killer? On this the experts disagreed.  The only clear thing was that the Earth faced a cataclysm of a degree unknown since the dinosaurs shared a similar fate. But those behemoths and strange winged creatures were entirely unprepared to deal with the aftermath.
Assuming the Earth survived, as it had then, could we do any better?Any survivors of such a previously unfathomable event could face a world ripped apart by a level of death and destruction far beyond that of any war or plague that preceded it. And is impact would extend beyond countless deaths to the massive  displacement of lives and livelihoods, and unprecedented  uncertainty about the future. In the immediate aftermath, unprecedented challenges would face the political, social and business leaders who remained.
The decisions they made, ideas they had and their answers to the myriad novel questions they faced would make all the difference in the world. As We Knew It presents the end of the world as we now know it and looks in on the altered lives of our leaders and of everyday people as they attempt to deal with the greatest challenges faced since the dawn of civilization.
