Agriculture has long been a major factor in Florida's economy and contains a rich history. There is one crop that is arguably the most important resource to ever grace the Sunshine State and has had the biggest impact in making the Florida the highly successful state it is today: Tobacco. Ever since its introduction in Gadsden County during the 1820s. Tobacco became a significant cash crop that shaped the social and economic foundation of Colonial Florida.
This would ultimately result in Florida becoming the second largest premium tobacco producer in America and global juggernaut for nearly two centuries.
