We are taught that homophobia is a "sensitive" or "controversial" topic-a delicate debate to be handled with care. But there is nothing delicate about the systematic denial of a person's basic right to exist without being despised. It is not an irrational, trembling fear; it is a practiced, deliberate, and generationally transmitted system of contempt.
