Mike Schoenmehl

'A region full of cultural variety' was the slogan for the 2003 Rhineland-Palatinate summer festival and the brass quintet Splendid Brass asked Mike Schönmehl to interpret this theme in music. This resulted in five encounters with different cultural traditions, displaying tangential and overlapping influences from around the globe. Mike Schönmehl has combined elements of music from Japan, Turkey, Spain, Canada and Brazil with his jazzy musical style to create a highly original piece of chamber music.
To go with this composition the artist from Nieder-Olm has painted five tableaux which he describes as 'images born of musical scores'. Instrumentation : 2 trumpets in Bb, horn in F, trombone and tuba
