Andrew H. Fel

The Course of Empire is a series of five paintings by the 19th century British born American landscape artist Thomas Cole (1801 to 1848). The five canvases were painted between 1833 and 1836, all are oil on canvas and represent the rise and fall of civilisation perhaps within his own social and religious context of a rapidly changing America.
