When the wolf song turns hollow, Selaynia knows something terrible has happened. Gifted with the ability to hear the emotions carried in the voices of Canthralas's wolves, she senses terror, blood, and the silence left by stolen pups. But the elders of Grey Shadows refuse to intervene. Their laws demand that the clan remain apart, even while the wolves they claim as kin suffer. Unable to ignore their cries, Selaynia defies the council and follows the raiders into the mountains.
Along the way, she is chosen by Shadowmist, a powerful silver-black wolf whose bond draws her deeper into the song than ever before. Their hunt soon forces them into an uneasy alliance with off-world soldiers pursuing the same enemy: traffickers who intend to turn the stolen pups into weapons. Outnumbered and mistrusted, Selaynia must choose how much she is willing to sacrifice to save them. Because answering the wolf song may cost her the only home she has ever known.
