Warren R. Johnson

Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is the oldest city in Europe. Evidence shows that it began in the Sixth Millennium BCE. Over its lifetime, it was conquered by 18 opposing armies. Each tore down the walls and erected a new city on top of the old town. Today, excavations are ongoing, revealing a layer-cake view of the remains of some of the previous civilizations.
