U. S. Marshal Lincoln Hawk tracked down the notorious gunslinger Arthur Burke in Sinclair's Heights and in a brief exchange of fire Arthur was badly wounded. Convinced he was about to die, Arthur confessed to the killing of yet another man, Zeke Cochran. Although Arthur was an unreliable source of information, Lincoln put aside his skepticism and headed to White Plains where he found that the rancher Felix Butler had already been found guilty of Zeke's killing.
Now determined to find out whether there had been a miscarriage of justice, Lincoln embarked on a perilous investigation that seemed set to uncover a truth that might have been better left secret.
