When U. S. Marshal Lincoln Hawk's embarks on a mission to break up a counterfeit bill operation in Broken Corner he soon gets a valuable lead. Sterling Yeager kills a storekeeper and after fleeing he leaves behind a substantial sum of money. It's unclear how Sterling came by the money or even whether it's genuine, but he has a connection to the notorious gunslinger Joaquin Evanston. Lincoln sets out to bring Joaquin to justice, but when he finds him Joaquin's empire has been destroyed and Joaquin is seeking vengeance, so to complete his mission Lincoln forms an alliance with the outlaw, a decision he's sure to regret.
