''Timeliner'' is the classic 1955 science fiction novel that follows a scientist named Dr. Hugh Macklin who is working on a quantum physics breakthrough called "dimensional quadrature". During an experiment, a malicious colleague who is having an affair with Macklin's wife manipulates the equipment, thrusting Macklin 80 years into the future.
Instead of physical time travel, Macklin's consciousness is flung forward, displacing the mind and body of another man who is excavating uranium on the Moon.
When that host body dies, his consciousness leaps forward again to another host. He is caught in a continuous loop of jumping further into successive future eras, trying desperately to find a way to navigate back to his own timeline and identity.
