Résumé

Would your favorite cartoon still be great if there were no colorful voices or zany music ? How satisfying would Acme dynamite explosions be without a screeching whistle, a surprising CRACK ! , and an overwhelming BOOM ! ? Sound is just as crucial to your animation as visuals, whether it is a score, sound effects, or dialog. This nuts-and-bolts guide to sound design for animation explains the theory and workings behind sound for media.
It also provides suggestions for effective workflows used to produce a soundtrack. Follow the sound design process from preproduction through the mix and learn how to use the tools and techniques of the trade. Learn how to : develop a legal soundtrack utilizing original and copy-protected materials ; integrate sound designers and composers at all stages of production ; fully utilize the soundtrack in the storytelling process.
The companion website, focalpress.com/cw/beauchamp, features four films - each mixed with isolated SFX and music so you can hear how each component of an animated film's soundtrack participates in effective storytelling.
