    Résumé

Cathodic protection (CP) is a corrosion control technique widely used to protect metallic structures, such as pipelines, offshore platforms and chloride contaminated reinforced concrete constructions. The reader can find in this text : the principles of CP by immunity and passivity as well as of cathodic prevention ; protection conditions for uniform and localised corrosion of bare and coated carbon steel, stainless steels, aluminium, copper alloys and titanium ; current and potential distribution ; monitoring techniques ; interference-related problems ; side effects ; anodic materials for galvanic and impressed current systems ; an historical outline.
CP applications in soil, in sea water and in concrete are thoroughly illustrated through choice of the CP system, design and set up procedures, monitoring and case studies. CP of internal surfaces and anodic protection are also presented.
