Dopo aver dedicato a Copertino e al castello (1540) di Evangelista Menga una monografia, Lucio Maiorano, studioso e appassionato di storia pugliese, riserva ai suoi lettori un omaggio che lega idealmente Copertino e Matera attraverso il racconto dell'opera del cappuccino frate Francesco da Copertino, al secolo Cataldo Donato, che nel 1671 costruì a Matera il Seminario Palazzo Lanfranchi. "Circostanza documentata da un'epigrafe che ancora oggi si legge nell'ingresso dell'edificio di cui Maiorano segue le vicende storiche fino alle più recenti quando divenne prestigiosa sede del Museo Nazionale di arte medioevale e moderna e nel quale opera il Centro Carlo Levi" scrive l'architetto Mario Cazzato nella presentazione del libro intitolato "Fra Francesco da Copertino Seminario Lanfranchi Matera".

Although these natives of Copertino certainly had remarkable qualities, their activities coincided with the events connected with Saint Giuseppe, which definitely not only helped promote them artistically but made Copertino the most important artistic centre in Terra d'Otranto after Lecce. Nearby Nardò has no-one to compare in the same decades with the Copertino notables briefly mentioned here. We must therefore be grateful to Lucio Maiorano who, with this new focus on Fra Francesco and his Matera work, has reminded us of all this .
