Biographie d'Alfred Bester

Alfred Bester was born in 1913 in New York. He went to college at University of Pennsylvania and Columbia, studying the humanities and psychology. His first SF story, The Broken Axiom, was published in Thrilling Wonder Stories in 1939. Bester continued to write and publish stories till 1942, when he started writing for DC Comics, working on some of their best known characters such as Superman and Batman.
After 4 years of this he moved on to scripting radio shows for serials like Charlie Chan and The Shadow. In 1950 he started writing SF short stories again and during the 1950s he produced two novels The Demolished Man (1953) and The Stars My Destination (1956), while working as a feature writer for Holiday magazine, where he remained until the magazine stopped publishing in the 1970s. At this point he returned to writing SF with two novels Extro (1975) and Golem (l980).
Bester died in 1987 after a long illness. In his will he made out his house and literary estate to his bartender.
