Résumé

This practical Guide treats the mechanics and evolution of the harpsichord, and offers a survey of its literature. The author provides valuable advice on touch and technique, including articulation and fingering, with a lucid exposition of the issues involved in historical performance practice and a clear explanation of ornamentation. The repertoire of each great national school is presented and discussed, with four representative pieces singled out for detailed analysis.
More advanced players will welcome the author's suggestions on continuo playing and the helpful discussion of tuning and temperaments. Ann Bond was a pupil of Thurston Dart at Cambridge University. She later returned to intensive study of the harpsichord with Robert Woolley and David Roblou. She has performed with many notable early music specialists and recorded with the Consort of Twelve. Formerly Lecturer in music and University Organist at Manchester University, she now lives in Lancashire, England.
A most comprehensive guide to the harpsichord— a must for all harpsichord students ! Virginia Black Professor of Harpsichord Royal Academy of Music, London
