Benec is a scriptwriter who has the rare luxury of being able to take his time, turning and mulling over his ideas until they are perfect. This is because for Benec, scriptwriting is a professional pleasure, as he continues to hold down a "real job" in parallel as an IT consultant. Writing is of course an appreciated outlet, though the author equally enjoys his career in computing. Benec first came into the world of scriptwriting at the request of an artist friend, and if his first attempt fell short, it opened the door to a bright future in a new field.
Benec collaborated with artist Giuseppe Liotti on a short story for the first edition of the Prix Raymond Leblanc, with the pair emerging victorious. This initial success opened the doors to publisher Le Lombard, a step up that Benec took without hesitation, joining up with Thomas Legrain to produce the political thriller "Sisco" (Europe Comics 2017). This series featured a special agent working for the French secret service at the Elysée, and it was just the beginning: from uchronia, to the 1920s, to futuristic fiction, Benec has explored genre after genre, producing new stories and worlds one after the other, slowly but surely.
Thomas Legrain est de ces âmes bien nées pour lesquelles la valeur n'attend point le nombre des années ! Il a commencé à dessiner à un âge bien antérieur à ses souvenirs, et entame sa première bande dessinée à l'âge de 12 ans.
Disciple de « l'école Van Hamme » et de Travis Charest, il développe très tôt un goût pour le réalisme et les décors méticuleux. Pourtant, à l'âge des choix professionnels, il préfère étudier l'histoire et la criminologie, en franc partisan de l'apprentissage artistique individuel. Fort de son immense capacité de travail, il boucle néanmoins un album par an en parallèle de ses études. Et, à peine sorti de ces dernières, il poste quelques planches sur le web.
Il ne lui faudra que deux petits mois pour se faire repérer par Jean-Claude Bartoll ("Insiders"), et signer avec lui, coup sur coup, "Mortelle Riviera" chez Glénat, et "L'Agence", chez Casterman. Trois petites années (et sept albums !) plus tard, il réalise un rêve d'enfant en rejoignant les éditions du Lombard, avec le scénariste Benec, autour de "Sisco", un thriller politique qui lui permet d'exprimer pleinement son don pour le dessin réaliste.
En 2015 il s'offre une petite pause dans la série "Sisco" pour plonger dans "Bagad Inc", un techno-thriller réalisé avec Stephen Desberg.
