Résumé

This graphic, hard-hitting, true story tells of the life and experiences of a young homeless boy, abandoned by his family in the 1970s, who turns to stealing a little food in order survive on the streets of Auckland, New Zealand's biggest city and is Incarcerated in Auckland's notorious Mount Eden Prison. This is no place for a boy, barely fifteen years old and when his age is discovered, he is released back into society where contact was inevitable with hardened criminals and drugs.
It was not long before Shak, as he was known, eventually became a full-blown drug addict and dealer. His story, laced with dry humor, tells of many experiences as he grew older, of life in the underworld, rubbing shoulders with some of New Zealand's most notorious criminals, including meeting up with Terry Clarke, the infamous "Mr. Asia". the notorious Australasian drug dealer and murderer. Told with a brutal frankness, his story and language reveals experiences which only those who have endured life on the "inside" can relate to.
Today, Shak, who must obviously remain anonymous, is now a truly reformed and up-right member of society and a devoted family man with a warning message to those who may be tempted to experiment with drugs, particularly amphetamines known in N. Z as "P" or "Ice" in Australia.
