Résumé

An intriguing examination of the life and times of Josiah Wedgwood, potter to the Queen, entrepreneur and Enlightenment pioneer. Brian Dolan combines the remarkable story of Josiah Wedgwood with the story of the eighteenth-century world of industry, fashion and connoisseurship. Born in 1730, Wedgwood survived childhood smallpox to become one of the most prestigious potters in England. Using his business acumen, artistic sensibilities and scientific innovations, he succeeded in securing a royal contract, establishing the first true pottery factory in the world, and founding an Enlightenment dynasty that culminated in his grandson Charles Darwin.
