Résumé

From advertising to appliances and furniture to automobiles, nothing in today's world escapes the influence of design, a pervading force that improves the quality of daily life, whether we are aware of it or not. Defining a field as multifaceted as design is no easy task. This constantly evolving discipline produces countless objects that embody a combination of innovation, functionality, and beauty. The sleek, high-tech exterior of the iPod earmarks it os an obvious product of design, but so do the ergonomic curves of the humble Schick razor. From the growth of brands like Ikea and McDonald's to the more subtle design features in everyday abjects like Tupperware, the Bic pen, and the desk chair, Élisabeth Couturier gives us the keys to understand and appreciate the implications of design on a daily basis.
