Pioneer Japanese Photographer And Printer Kazumasa Ogawa (1860-1929) established himself as the foremost photography publisher of the Meiji era and produced a range of illustrated books offeringviews of traditional Japan for the Western market. His book Some Japanese flowers of 1896. an original copy of which is in the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum, features handcolored collotypes of flowers native to Japan, including the lotus, several varieties of chrysanthemum and lily, and the morningglory.
All thirty-eight plates of Ogawa's exquisite flower images from the original edition are reproduced here.
