Résumé
Varicose veins and telangiectasias are the most frequent presentations of chronic venous disease. In Western societies, they affect almost one person out of two. A disease of aging, chronic venous disease is almost as frequent in men as in women. The high prevalence of the disease, the suffering it engenders, and the serious progressive stages that may occur, together with its impact on healthcare costs, call for attentive and informed management by the physician. The highly informative review affords the practitioner a clear, objective, and practical view of phlebology. Thanks to the multidisciplinary experience of the authors, the book rigorously defines varicose veins and telangiectasias and positions them in the context of chronic venous disease. The book then covers, in depth, the appearance, symptoms and complications, and the clinical examination and complementary investigations related to disease. Lastly, a large part of the book is devoted to prevention (with, in particular, a chapter on lifestyle) and treatment (practitioners and patients will find much valuable advice). Intended for practitioners in their everyday practice, this book aims to inform them of the existing treatment options, their indications, value, and potential complications. To that end, an entire chapter reviews the therapeutic strategy to be set up and implemented. The multidisciplinary nature of phlebology is also reflected in the authors' training.
